The healthy truth about European Retrievers

European/English Golden Retrievers, commonly known as English Cream because of their noticeable difference in color from American Golden Retrievers, are the better of the two breeds. There, I said it. I don’t see the point in sugar coating the truth when in reality readers just want to get to the point.

Besides just the beauty of the English Retriever, health was a determining factor when I choose the breed. English Retrievers, are a healthier dog, as statistics would show. The cancer rate for English Retrievers is around 38%, as compared to the American Golden, which is 60%. Not only do approximately half of American Goldens die due to cancer, their overall life span is close to 2 years shorter than the English breed; American life span is approximately 10 years, while the English is 12.

Less vet bills, less likelihood of cancer, and longer lifespan all reasons that make English Retrievers the superior breed. A healthy dog, what more could you ask for in your family’s next best friend?
